Located in the
central part of Shandong Peninsula of China, bordering the Yellow
Sea and the Bohai Sea, Yantai overlooks Liaoning Peninsula, Japan,
South Korea and Korea across the sea. It is one of the first coastal
cities opened to the outside world, and also an important city in
the Bohai Sea Economic Circle, to which the Chinese government attaches
great importance. Yantai administers four districts, one county,
seven county-level cities and one country-level economic and technological
development zone. It has a total area of 13,700 square kilometers
and a population of 6.467 million, in which the city proper occupies
2643.6 square kilometers and has a population of 1.685 million respectively.

  The
Second APEC International Trade Fair was held in Yantai from
June 6 to 10 in 1997.Li Lanqing,Chinese vice Premier and member
of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC
Central Committee,Wu Yi,Chinese State Councilor and alternative
member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee,Mr.Hawke,APEC
initiator and Australian former Prime Minister,and Mr.Jack Whiterlton,former
Executive Director of APEC Secretariat,were present at the Fair,Government
agencies and enterprises form all the 18member economies of
APEC attended the fair and set up 1236 booths for showcase. |

Second APEC SME Technology Exchange and Fair was held in Yantai
form October 8 to 14 in 1998,Wu Bangguo,Chinese Vice Premier
and member of the Politiacal Bureau of the CPC Central Committee,Wu
Guanzheng,member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central
Committee and Secretary of Shandong Provincial Party Committee
of CPC,attended the Fair,mr.Murayama Tomiichi,former Prime
minister of Japan,Mr.Winston Peters,former Deputy Prime Minister
of New Zealand,Mr.Marks,former First Vice President of Peru,Dato'Noor
Adlan,former Executive Director of APEC Secretariat sent fongratulatory
messages to the Fair,All the members and associate members
of APEC took part in the exhibition with 1056 booths totally.

APEC Investment Mart was held in Yantai form june 9 to 15 in
2001.Wu Yi,Chinese State Councilor and alternative member of
the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee,Mrs.Jenny
Shipley,former Prime Minister of New Zealand as well as trade
ministers from several member economies were present at the
Mart.Government Agencies and enterprises from 21 APEC member
economies attended the Mart and set up 966 booths for showcase.
